Mario Cavazos Vela (b. 1963) began taking photographs in Los Angeles, California in 1992. In 1995 he exhibited for the first time in Santa Monica, CA. He then moved back to his native Monterrey, Mexico and taught photography at the University of Monterrey. By 1998 the "Cinetca de Nuevo Leon" awarded him first prize for the image of a homeless person entitled "Cleaning the Tonal." In 2001 Mario moved to New York. He has since then had three solo exhibitions in the city as well as several participation in group exhibitions. In 2004 he joined Soho Photo Gallery where he belonged to the portfolio review committee. These days Mario travels between New York and south Texas where he works on his new photography.
